Where it fits in the US
Why US organisations use it
ISO 31000:2018 gives the principles, framework and process US organisations apply to enterprise risk management, often alongside the COSO ERM framework. The credential suits the risk, compliance and governance professionals who build or run an enterprise risk framework. ISO 31000 gives guidelines rather than requirements, so organisations are not certified to it: this course certifies you.

Frequently asked questions
Does the price include the PECB exam?
Yes. US$271 covers the official PECB eLearning, the exam voucher, remote proctoring and the certification fee. There are no separate exam fees.
Is this course PECB eLearning or PECB Self-Study?
It is PECB eLearning, which PECB delivers through PECB Certified Trainers in pre-recorded video format, with quizzes and the official course materials on myPECB, and it earns 21 CPD credits on completion. PECB Self-Study is a different PECB format: the official course materials without the recorded lessons, which PECB describes as suitable for people with considerable knowledge of the subject who do not require assisted lecturing, and it earns 11 CPD credits for a course of the same length. PECB makes its video lessons available only in eLearning. US$271 is the price for this eLearning course, charged in US dollars, and it includes the PECB exam voucher, two exam attempts, the certification fee, the first year of PECB certification maintenance and 12 months of access. What PECB eLearning and Self-Study each include.
How many exam attempts are included?
Two. Your first sitting is included, and if you do not pass, your second attempt within 12 months is included too.
Are there any additional fees?
Not from us. US$271 is charged at checkout, in US dollars. The one ongoing cost is PECB's own Annual Maintenance Fee, which keeps the credential active. Your first year is already included in the course price, so that fee starts in year two and is paid to PECB directly.
How long does the course take?
About 20 to 30 hours, the eLearning equivalent of a three day classroom course, and you have 12 months of access.
Can an organisation be certified to ISO 31000?
No. ISO 31000 gives guidelines rather than requirements, so organisations are not certified against it. People are: the PECB ISO 31000 Risk Manager credential shows you can apply its principles, framework and process.
Is the certification recognised in the US?
Yes. PECB is an international certification body, and the credential is the same certificate wherever you sit the exam.
Do I need risk management experience before I enrol?
No. You can take the course and sit the exam without it. Your experience decides which credential PECB issues after you pass: ISO 31000 Provisional Risk Manager needs none, and ISO 31000 Risk Manager needs two years of professional experience, one of them in risk management, plus 200 hours of project experience. Every credential also asks you to sign the PECB Code of Ethics.
Is a copy of the ISO 31000 standard included?
No, and you do not need it to complete the course or pass the exam. ISO 31000 is a licensed document, so if you want your own copy you buy it from iso.org or the ANSI Webstore.
Who am I buying from?
Mindset Cyber, an authorised PECB training partner based in Australia. The course, the materials and the exam are PECB’s own and are identical wherever you enrol. You are charged in US dollars and supported by email.
