What US$485 covers

US$485 for the official PECB eLearning. That covers everything you need to get certified: the pre-recorded video lessons by PECB Certified Trainers, the official PECB exam voucher and two exam attempts are included.

  • Official PECB ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer eLearning: 27 sections of pre-recorded video lessons by PECB Certified Trainers
  • 450+ pages of course material, worked examples and exercises
  • The PECB exam voucher, for a remote-proctored exam you book in myPECB
  • Two exam attempts: your first sitting, plus a resit within 12 months
  • Certification fees, and the first year of PECB credential maintenance
  • 12 months of access to the course, and 31 CPD credits on completion

You are charged US$485 in US dollars. There is no separate exam or certification invoice later.

Does the price include the PECB exam?

Yes. The voucher is part of the US$485, along with remote proctoring and the certification fee.

How many exam attempts are included?

Two. You sit the exam when you are ready, and if you do not pass first time, your second attempt within 12 months is included. You do not need to buy a second voucher.

Are there any additional fees?

None from us. The only ongoing cost is PECB's own Annual Maintenance Fee, USD 390 per certificate for each three-year cycle under PECB's Certification Maintenance Policy, which keeps your credential active, and your first year of it is already included. From year two you pay that to PECB directly. Foundation and Provisional level certificates carry no maintenance fee at all.

How long does it take?

The eLearning is equivalent to a five day classroom course. Most people finish in 30 to 40 hours, spread over two to four weeks around a working day, and your access lasts 12 months.

The exam

Three hours, open book, 80 questions, delivered online with remote proctoring in one of the scheduled exam sessions you book in myPECB. The seven domains are:

  • Fundamental principles and concepts of an ISMS
  • Information security management system (ISMS)
  • Planning an ISMS implementation based on ISO/IEC 27001
  • Implementing an ISMS based on ISO/IEC 27001
  • Monitoring and measurement of an ISMS based on ISO/IEC 27001
  • Continual improvement of an ISMS based on ISO/IEC 27001
  • Preparing for an ISMS certification audit

The quizzes at the end of each section mirror the exam format, so they are the best preparation you have.

Who it is for

Is this you?

  • Project managers and consultants running an ISO 27001 implementation
  • Security and compliance leads who own the ISMS internally
  • Anyone responsible for getting an organisation through certification
  • Members of an ISMS implementation team

Where it fits in the US

Why US organisations ask for it

Many US ISO 27001 projects start because an international or enterprise customer asked for the certificate, often alongside a SOC 2 report the organisation already holds. The work runs beside the NIST Cybersecurity Framework many US security programmes are built on, and beside state privacy laws such as California's CCPA. This course certifies you as an implementer. The organisation is certified separately, by an accredited certification body, typically ANAB-accredited in the US, after a Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the price include the PECB exam?

Yes. US$485 covers the official PECB eLearning, the exam voucher, remote proctoring, and the certification fee. There are no separate exam fees.

Is this course PECB eLearning or PECB Self-Study?

It is PECB eLearning, which PECB delivers through PECB Certified Trainers in pre-recorded video format, with quizzes and the official course materials on myPECB, and it earns 31 CPD credits on completion. PECB Self-Study is a different PECB format: the official course materials without the recorded lessons, which PECB describes as suitable for people with considerable knowledge of the subject who do not require assisted lecturing, and it earns 16 CPD credits for a course of the same length. PECB makes its video lessons available only in eLearning. US$485 is the price for this eLearning course, charged in US dollars, and it includes the PECB exam voucher, two exam attempts, the certification fee, the first year of PECB certification maintenance and 12 months of access. What PECB eLearning and Self-Study each include.

How many exam attempts are included?

Two. Your first sitting is included, and if you do not pass, your second attempt within 12 months is included too.

Are there any additional fees?

Not from us. US$485 is charged at checkout, in US dollars. The one ongoing cost is PECB's own Annual Maintenance Fee, which the PECB Certification Maintenance Policy sets at USD 390 per certificate for each three-year cycle and which keeps the credential active. Your first year is already included in the course price, so that fee starts in year two and is paid to PECB directly.

How long does the course take?

Most people finish in 30 to 40 hours, spread across two to four weeks. It is the eLearning equivalent of a five day classroom course, and you have 12 months of access.

What is the exam format?

A 3-hour, 80-question, open-book exam delivered online with remote proctoring. You book one of the scheduled online exam sessions in myPECB.

Should I take Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor?

Lead Implementer if you are building or running the ISMS, Lead Auditor if you are assessing someone else’s. Consultants often hold both. They are the same price here, and both include the exam voucher and two attempts.

Is the certification recognised in the US?

Yes. PECB is an international certification body and the credential is the same certificate wherever you sit the exam. US employers and procurement teams recognise ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer as the implementation credential for the standard.

Do I need implementation experience before I enrol?

No. You can sit the exam without it. Experience decides your credential level afterwards: Provisional Implementer needs none, while Implementer, Lead Implementer and Senior Lead Implementer add work experience and project hours on the same exam result.

Is a copy of the ISO 27001 standard included?

No, and you do not need it to complete the course or pass the exam. ISO/IEC 27001 is a licensed document, so if you want your own copy you buy it from iso.org or the ANSI Webstore.

Who am I buying from?

Mindset Cyber, an authorised PECB training partner based in Australia. The course, the materials and the exam are PECB’s own and are identical wherever you enrol. You are charged in US dollars and supported by email.
